Vancouver Open 2007

In its second year, the Vancouver Open enjoyed another strong showing, but its depth was hampered by the fact that several other events were drawing away participants in various places around the world, including the World Ten Dance event in Japan and two nearby competitions the same weekend. As usual, a superbly organized event with great lighting, providing many opportunities for good pictures. 194 photos. Photography by George Pytlik.

Embassy Ball 2007

With a history dating back to 1981, the Embassy Ball is one of the finest competitions in North America. This year's event featured IDSF Grand Slam and WDC World Cup championship events. I didn't shoot the IDSF Standard event. The lighting for photography was reasonably good, but there was only one place in the ballroom suitable for shooting, and it was in a distant corner of the room, creating a number of unique challenges. 204 photos. SnowBall Classic 2007

SnowBall Classic moved to a new venue in 2007, much to the relief of competitors. Now held in the Sheraton Wall Centre, the event returned to the quality it was known for. I found the lighting good, but too dark around the perimeter of the dance floor, plunging those couples on the edge into darkness and creating challenges for them to be noticed while interacting with the audience. 47 photos. The inaugural year for this event proved to be a resounding success. Held at the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver, this event featured professional as well as amateur events, and a spectacular show choreographed by the legendary Wendy Johnson. 154 photos. Photography by George Pytlik.
